  • Amundi set to win contest for Pioneer Investments

first_imgEurope’s largest asset manager, Amundi, appeared poised to sign a deal with Italy’s biggest bank, UniCredit, to buy its asset management subsidiary Pioneer Investments, according to a joint statement from the two businesses today.UniCredit, which reported total group assets of €874.5bn at the end of September, and Amundi said in a statement: “UniCredit and Amundi today announced that they have entered into exclusive negotiations in relation to the possible sale of the Pioneer Investments business to Amundi.”Last month, UniCredit confirmed it had offers on the table from different parties wanting to buy Pioneer Investments and that it was in negotiations with potential buyers.Italy’s postal service Poste Italiane was one of the parties bidding for Pioneer, having formed a group with Italian bank Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP) and Italian independent asset manager ANIMA to do so. Offers for Pioneer have been reported in the media at around €3.6bn.UniCredit is holding a “capital markets day” in London on 13 December, at which it has said it will unveil the outcome of the strategic review it is now undertaking. The group-wide review is focusing on how to reinforce and make the best of UniCredit’s capital position, the bank has said, as well as improving profitability and making sure its operations are continuously transformed while at the same time keeping the flexibility necessary to “seize value-creating opportunities.”UniCredit, like many other Italian banks, is attempting to strengthen its capital base.Despite the announcement suggesting a deal may be close, UniCredit’s share price fell by more than 4% in Monday’s trading, in line with those of other Italian banks, after Italy’s prime minister Matteo Renzi’s reform plans were rejected in a referendum.Amundi has its headquarters in Paris and manages more than €1trn of assets.last_img read more

  • Angels to face lineup questions when Andrelton Simmons returns

first_imgBecause La Stella hits left-handed and Pujols right-handed, they would form a natural platoon. Of course, that would reduce to Pujols to playing about 30 percent of the time. So far he’s started 14 of 19 games.“We’re going to have things to think about,” Maddon said before Wednesday’s game. “We haven’t had the conversations. How do we maneuver these guys? Where do we play them?”They still have some time. Simmons said on Wednesday that he is feeling better, but he’s unsure of the timetable. Mostly, he still feels discomfort in his ankle when running the bases or making sharp cuts he would have to make in the field.“We’ll see in the next couple days,” Simmons said. “Every day I come in and talk to the trainers about how I feel after doing whatever I did the day before and whatever they have on schedule. We try that out and see how it feels. I can tell you it is feeling better every day. It gets tired every once in a while like after really working it, but I’m making progress.”UPTON’S SLUMPSince the Angels recalled top prospect Jo Adell, reducing Justin Upton’s playing time, the veteran has managed just one infield hit in 16 at-bats. He would not have even gotten that much playing time if Adell didn’t miss two games with quad tightness. Going forward, the opportunities figure to be even more limited. It highlights one of the issues that challenges managers. The Angels clearly can’t give Upton significant playing time while he’s struggling so much, but how can he improve without getting much playing time?“Talking to the hitting coaches, there are certain things we can explore,” Maddon said. “The thing about Justin is his work ethic is spectacular and he’s moving well. Watch him run to first base, watch him move in the outfield. He’s moving pretty well, so that tells me everything is still in pretty good order.“This guy has a history of getting scalding hot, and I believe that’s going to happen again. In the meantime, let’s let him work through some moments and try to pick the right spots.”Related Articles Newsroom GuidelinesNews TipsContact UsReport an Error Angels’ Mike Trout working on his defense, thanks to Twitter ANAHEIM >> Interesting decisions are looming for the Angels.Andrelton Simmons, who is out with a sprained ankle, has been getting some live at-bats with the Angels’ squad in Long Beach. Manager Joe Maddon said Simmons “is a lot closer,” and he “wouldn’t rule it out,” that Simmons could be activated sometime during this weekend’s series against the Dodgers. Then what?David Fletcher, who has been playing shortstop in Simmons’ absence, is not leaving the lineup. Jose Suarez’s rocky start sinks Angels in loss to Astros Angels’ Shohei Ohtani spending downtime working in outfield center_img Angels offense breaks out to split doubleheader with Astros Angels’ poor pitching spoils an Albert Pujols milestone ALSOThe Angels are scheduled to have Patrick Sandoval, Andrew Heaney and Julio Teheran pitch this weekend against the Dodgers. They could have used Thursday’s off day to flip-flop red hot Dylan Bundy and Teheran, allowing Bundy to pitch against the Dodgers. Maddon said they opted to keep the pitchers in order because he wants to get Teheran on track, and he remains confident that he’ll improve. …Hansel Robles, who lost his job as the Angels closer, had his third straight scoreless outing on Wednesday. Robles’ velocity, which had been an issue in his earlier struggles, has improved slightly. On Wednesday he hit 97.4 mph, his hardest fastball of the year, while striking out the side. “The stuff seems to be trending in an upward way,” Maddon said before the game, “so I’ll just try to pick the right spots for him and keep moving him back toward (the high leverage spots).” “Fletch plays,” Maddon said. “He’s just got to play.”Fletcher, of course, has been a dependable utility man for the Angels in his first two years, but he’s taken that to a new level this year. He is hitting .303 with an .882 OPS. He already has three homers, which is halfway to his total from last season.Once Simmons returns, it crosses shortstop off the list of Fletcher’s possible positions. Fletcher can also play second, third and the corner outfield spots. If current performance is the most important factor to determine which player loses playing time when Simmons bumps Fletcher off shortstop, it could be Albert Pujols. The Angels could play Fletcher every day at second, with Tommy La Stella moving over to first. La Stella had barely played any first base until summer camp, but he’s now made three of his last eight starts there. He’s also heated up at the plate, lifting his average to .288 and his OPS to .855. Pujols is hitting .182 with a .601 OPS.last_img read more

first_imgNeil Warnock could take Jermaine Beckford back to Leeds and is keen to sign Jerome Thomas on a permanent basis, according to The Sun.United boss Warnock has told new Leeds owners GFH Capital what he requires during next month’s transfer window. The Wembley-born Thomas has been on loan at the Championship club from West Brom and Warnock has made it clear he would like to keep him.And it is claimed that former Wealdstone striker Beckford may return to Elland Road, where he scored more than 70 league goals during a five-year spell.Beckford, from Ealing, is currently on loan at Huddersfield from Leicester but could be available in January.Meanwhile, QPR boss Harry Redknapp is considering signing Titus Bramble from Sunderland, according to the Daily Telegraph. It is claimed that Redknapp is interested in the defender, who is said to be keen to leave the Stadium of Light after falling out of manager Martin O’Neill’s plans. The 31 year-old, whose contract expires at the end of the season, would apparently prefer a move to London to be nearer his family. The Sun have an interview with Julio Cesar in which the keeper insists he can still enjoy success at QPR despite their dismal first half of the season.“There is so much to look forward to with the new training ground and stadium and we want to get QPR respected internationally,” he said.“If you talk about Chelsea 10 years ago or Manchester City five years ago, nobody round the world knew these clubs.“If I ask you to bet five years ago that Manchester City would win the Premier League would you have done that?“They showed how clubs can change and I still believe in the project at QPR.”This page is regularly updated.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 Follow West London Sport on TwitterFind us on Facebooklast_img read more

  • Jai Ram Thakur is badly cornered in Mandi now

first_imgKuldeep Singh Rathore, 58, was appointed PCC president close to the Lok Sabha poll replacing Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, a sitting MLA. His brief was to put the party’s factionalism to an end and ensure active engagement of the veterans like Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, who was vehemently seeking removal of Sukhu for quite sometimes. A close lieutenant of former Union Minister Anand Sharma, Rathore says the party is now fully geared up to fight the Lok Sabha polls. Ashwani Sharma, Assistant Editor, the Millennium Post, spoke to Rathore at Shimla. Here are excerpts from his interview. Also Read – Uddhav bats for ‘Sena CM’ Around three months into the job, do you think you are in the full command of the things? Yes, 100 per cent. When I was given the charge, the party was in complete disarray. Though I don’t want to cause any aspersions on my predecessor it is a hard fact that I inherited the organisation that was split into many factions. Senior leaders were unhappy and utterly disappointed with the party’s state of affairs. Knowing that the elections are around the corner, I did not waste a single day. I had the organisational experience since being a PCC general secretary before this. I reached out to all senior leaders. I also met the workers. Noted down their suggestions. A clear road map emerged before me. That has been put into full action. Also Read – Farooq demands unconditional release of all detainees in J&KHow tough was to convince Virbhadra Singh and get him on the board? Virbhadra Singh is a towering leader. He had been Chief Minister six-times, a former union minister and PCC president several times. He understood the challenge before us and trusted me. I told him simply that if I am a ‘commander’, appointed by Congress president Rahul Gandhi, you are our Commander-In-Chief (C-in-C). He laughed and said ok. What are the party’s prospects. Do you think, you will be able to open your account? In 2014, the Congress could not win any seat. All four seats were won by the BJP. This was basically due to Modi wave sweeping the country. They (BJP) mislead voters. Narendra Modi made tall promises. People in Himachal Pradesh are very simple. They believed him blindly. They thought the state will get a lot of benefits /help from the centre when Modi becomes the Prime Minister. We also expected a financial package, lot of jobs for the youths, and believed that the apple growers will be benefited from what he promised to Himachal Pradesh farmers. What has really changed for the Congress now? There is a lot of change. Modi faces three-fold anti-incumbency. He did not help at all though he claims Himachal Pradesh is his second home. His corruption, the Rafale deal and other exposed, failure to provide jobs, help fruit growers in the state, and above all now non-governance of the BJP government under Jai Ram Thakur. People feel Modi is a liar. His ‘jumla’ politics is not going to work again. Modi factor not cut any ice here. No vote for Modi. If so, why senior Congress leaders did not agree to contest the Lok Sabha polls? It’s true. I wanted senior leaders to contest. I was keen to see Virbhadra Singh contesting Mandi – which is a hot seat for us now. He was not ready. Nevertheless, I think we have been able to field best and also winnable candidates. The BJP position is so bad that it had to change two candidates. It’s a clear defeat of the party because the performance of its MPs is zero. Do you feel the return of Pt Sukh Ram with his grandson Ashray Sharma in tow will help the Congress, especially Ashray having been fielded from Mandi? Oh yes. Sukh Ram’s entry is definitely a blow to the BJP. He has a strong influence intact in the area. Since his son Anil Sharma had quit the Congress and joined the BJP in 2017 before the polls, the Congress lost the whole of Mandi district. This time, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur — who hails from Mandi district, is badly cornered by the Congress. He is worried about Mandi to save his chair. Anil Sharma has also quit the cabinet. Let us see how Jai Ram Thakur saves the seat. But will Virbhadra Singh campaign in Mandi? We had discussed this factor in length. Virbhadra Singh Ji has already joined the poll campaign. His Mandi campaign programme will soon be released officially. I can’t say if he will share the stage with Pt Sukh Ram but he (Virbhadra ) will be party’s star campaigner for all four seats. The BJP has a lot of resources for the campaign, hoardings are already out all over the state. The Congress has no money to fight polls. I always say we will fight ‘Dhanbal’ (money power) with “Janabal” (manpower) Virbhadra Singh says the Congress will win at least two seats. What’s your assessment? No, No. We will all four seats.last_img read more
