first_imgSeptember 25, 2019 /Sports News – Local Weber State Men’s Basketball Commences Practice Friday Written by FacebookTwitterLinkedInEmailOGDEN, Utah-As confirmed by the Weber State athletic department Wednesday, the Wildcats’ men’s basketball team commences practice Friday for the 2019-20 season.Weber State, coming off of an 18-15 season in 2018-19, returns eight student-athletes who saw action last season.Among them is star senior guard Jerrick Harding, who averaged 21.4 points and shot 87 percent from the foul line last season. Harding has made the All-Big Sky Conference first team two consecutive seasons headed into his senior campaign.Another stalwart returning for the Wildcats is senior guard Cody John, who posted 14.8 points last season.Weber State also welcomes in a pair of transfers in junior guard Khameron Davis who joins the program from the University of Pittsburgh.Per NCAA rules, because he transferred to another Division I school in Weber State, he will have to sit out this season. However, he will have two seasons of eligibility, commencing in 2020-21.However, the other transfer, sophomore forward Boubacar Diakite, is eligible to play this season as he comes to the program from Iowa Western Community College.Diakite, a native of Mali, is one of five international players on the Wildcats’ roster.The others include John (a Canadian national), junior forward Michal Kozak (Czech Republic), sophomore forward Donatas Kupsas (Lithuania) and sophomore forward-center Dima Zdor (Ukraine).Wildcats head coach Randy Rahe returns for his 14th season at Weber State. He has amassed a school and Big Sky-Conference record 266 wins against 153 losses (.635).He also boasts the Big Sky Conference record in conference games with a mark of 165-63 (.724).The Wildcats commence their season November 2 at the Dee Events Center against NCAA Division II foe Western Colorado of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.The regular season officially commences November 8 at Logan, Utah against regional rival Utah State.
